Kenneth Walker says he is ‘a million percent sure’ cops did not identify themselves when they carried out the raid.
In an interview with CBS This Morning, Walker said he didn’t hear Louisville cops identify themselves when they came through the apartment’s door and carried out the raid that ended with Breonna Taylor being shot by police.
Walker reportedly fired once when officers burst through the door. Cops then returned fire and Taylor was shot multiple times.
No drugs were found at the apartment.
The cops previously said that they identified themselves before coming through the door.
“It was dead silent in the house. It was 12.00, 1.00 at night, or whatever time. So it was – it’s always quiet. We live in a quiet place. So if somebody was on the other side of the door saying anything, we would hear them,” Walker said.
He said that he and his girlfriend asked ‘several times’ who was there when officers started approaching.
“There was no response. So the next thing I know the door is flying open,” he expressed. “I’m a million percent sure that nobody identified themselves.”
Walker added: “That’s why I grabbed the gun. Didn’t have a clue. I mean, if it was the police at the door, and they just said, ‘We’re the police’, me or Breonna didn’t have a reason at all not to open the door to see what they wanted.
“That’s why I never thought it was the police. Because why would the police be coming here?”
Walker was initially charged with attempted murder after he fired a shot that injured an officer.
He has filed a lawsuit against Louisville city and its police department, saying he was a victim of misconduct.
