A female teacher who was jailed for having sex with her students cried as she made an emotional apology.
She also attempted to convince officials to let her get out of prison early.
39-year-old Brianne Altrice was imprisoned for having sex with three teenagers while she was a teacher at Davis High School in Utah.
She cried and apologized at her parole hearing, saying that she only did those acts as she was suffering from low self-esteem.
“I am accountable for this. I did this. And with that knowledge comes growth,” Altice said, according to Deseret News.
“I apologize for the role I was supposed to play in their life and I know I didn’t. Now it’s part of their history they can’t erase.”
It was in 2015 when she was sentenced to between 2 and 20 years in jail for her crimes, which included continuing to have a sexual relationship with a student even after she had already been arrested and was bailed out.
Last week was her second attempt to convince officials to let her out early. She was denied release in 2017.
During the hearing, Altice was presented with a letter that was written by one of the students but she didn’t respond to it to give him the ‘final word.’
After a pause, the teacher added: “I don’t want to justify, I don’t want to undermine any of his dealing or his experience. I think he has a right to state all this very eloquently.”
She has been working with a group called Canines With A Cause during her stay in prison. The group helps to pair up military vets with dogs in shelters.
The board of parole is expected to decide on her future within the next three weeks.
