A teacher has been fired after she told an entire classroom of fifth graders that ‘homosexuality’ is wrong and that ‘two men living together is a sin.
’
The unnamed teacher went on a homophobic rant in front of students at Deerfield Elementary School while the children were sharing what they were thankful for before the Thanksgiving day.
A boy named Daniel, who spent years in foster and experienced two failed adoptions, expressed: “I’m thankful that I’m finally going to be adopted by my two dads.”
But the teacher suddenly asked: “Why on earth would you be happy about that?” She went on and spent ten minutes telling the class that ‘homosexuality is wrong’ and ‘two men living together is a sin.’
She told Daniel: “That’s not something to be thankful for.”
Some girls in the class tried to stop the teacher but she went on with her lecture. Those three girls left the room and looked for the principal, Caroline Krandler, who escorted the teacher out of the school.
Louis and Josh van Amstel, Daniel’s soon-to-be loving parents, praised the principal and expressed dismay at the teacher’s hurtful words.
A longtime performer on Dancing With The Stars and champion ballroom dancer, Louis shared the incident on Facebook.
He said that the young boy stayed quiet during the teacher’s lecture and did not want to talk to staff after the incident.
“He was so fearful that this could make us think that we don’t want to adopt him,” Louis said to the Salt Lake Tribune.
“That’s definitely not going to happen. But this situation really hurt him. This person really hurt us.”
The day after the incident, Josh and Louis found the front of their home covered with colorful paper hearts with heartwarming messages of support and love.
“So much good has come from this one ugly act that it’s amazing to know we live in the right community,” Josh said.
