A furious mother accused her young son’s substitute teacher of humiliating the boy by taping a face mask on his face.
As FOX5 reported, a mother whose 9-year-old son is attending the Reedom Elementary School in Mountain’s Edge, Las Vegas, complained about her son’s female substitute teacher after the woman allegedly used tape to secure a face mask on the boy’s face.
According to the furious mom, who chose to remain anonymous, the teacher punished her son after he forgot to put on his face mask while trying to fetch water because he was thirsty.
Upset by the student’s actions, the teacher then allegedly taped a face mask to the boy’s face in front of the entire class. As the mother says, her son broke into tears after he was humiliated in front of his classmates.
“I don’t think this woman has any business teaching children,” the mother said.
“I was furious, furious. I was scared for my son on what kind of long-term effect it is going to have on him socially, the fact that the entire class was laughing.”
While the mother insisted she doesn’t have a problem with the mask mandate that the school has implemented, she believes that her son should not be subjected to “corporal punishment” because he forgot to wear his mask.
“He went to get a sip of water, forgot to put the mask on. The teacher did not tell him to put it back on or send him to the office, she instead pulled him up in front of the classroom in front of all of the students and she then taped the mask across the top of his face,” the mom, who has since filed a police report against the teacher, added.
To make matters even more concerning, the 9-year-old allegedly told his mom that five other similar incidents took place in his class since the start of the new school year.
Following the incident, the Clark County School District confirmed that the case is currently under investigation. Though the student insisted similar incidents took place at his school recently, the school district claimed this was an isolated incident.
