Besides getting his body covered in tattoos, the teacher also had the whites of his eyes inked black.

Following the complaint of a parent who insisted their 3-year-old son had nightmares after seeing the teacher, the Docteur Morere Elementary School ruled that Helaine could no longer be allowed to teach kindergarten children.

“I think the decision they took was quite sad. All of my students and their parents were always cool with me because basically they knew me,” Helaine said after the school’s ruling.

“It’s only when people see me from far away that they can assume the worst.”

Despite the setback, Helaine remains determined to pursue his passion for teaching because he loves his job.

As the teacher also revealed, he started getting tattoos as he was undergoing an “existential crisis.” Now, his passion for ink has become a part of his life and he hopes to show his pupils it’s okay to accept people who are different.

“Maybe when they are adults they will be less racist and less homophobic and more open-minded,” Helaine said.
