A 17-year-old collapsed and passed away at his computer after playing games all night during the half-term holidays.
Piyawat Haikun from Udon Thani, Thailand suffered from a severe gaming addiction that he cut classes and used most of his time playing on multiplayer battle games on his computer.
His heartbroken parents revealed he would stay up all night and close the curtains during the day just to play games.
As he spent hours and hours with his computer at their home in Udon Thani, his parents would bring him food and tell him to stop. However, he always refused to pause and take a rest.
His father, Jaranwit, went into his bedroom and found him slumped over a PC tower as he fell from his computer chair.
The parents also found a pile of takeaway boxes on their son’s desk and a bottle of soft drinks.
Devastated Jaranwit explained how he attempted to revive his son. Unfortunately, it was already too late.
“I called his name and said, ‘Wake up, wake up’ but he did not respond,” he expressed. “I could see he was dead.”
Doctors examined the body and said that the teen had passed away from stroke. They also said that this may have been due to playing computer games through the night but it has not been confirmed.
“My son was smart and always did great at school, but he had a major problem with gaming addiction,” said Jaranwit.
“I tried to warn him about his relentless long hours playing games and he promised to reduce it, but it was too later. He had already died before he had a chance to change.
“I want my son’s death to be an example and warning for parents whose children are game addicts. They need to be more strict on their children’s playing hours otherwise they could end up like my son.”
