Two teenage parents have opened up about becoming mother and father early in life as they shared their rocky experiences with the world.
19-year-old Texas-based Maggie and Kenrrick Rojas were 17 when they found out they were pregnant despite using birth control. To make matters even more shocking for the couple, it was later revealed they were expecting twins.
“When I found out that I was pregnant with the first set, I had just graduated high school. I freaked at first. I didn’t know if I could take care of two babies at 17 – so I was really scared the first time,” Maggie expressed.
Since the couple fell pregnant at such a young age, things quickly heated up between them and their family members, especially Kenrrick’s mom who “reacted strongly” and got mad at them over the news.
“She was mad at first. It took a couple of days for his mum to warm up to me. This was before we found out it was twins, and then she freaked out all over again. But she is very supportive now, she loves them like crazy,” the Texas-based teen mom admitted.
After finding out all the tricks they needed to know in order to raise twins, the couple felt having another baby wouldn’t pose a problem at all. After getting pregnant again, however, they were surprised to find out that they were expecting twins once more.
“I would say the second set is easier, in terms of I know what I’m doing a lot more. But it’s harder in terms of getting absolutely no sleep,” 19-year-old Maggie said.
As the young parents claimed, having four children at the age of 19 has come with both positive and negative effects, whereas strangers often bully them and accuse them of being ‘irresponsible’.
“There’s been a lot of judgement and other things that come with it for sure. I started getting really mean hate comments online,” Maggie added.
“I might be only 19 with four kids, two sets of twins, but they’re happy, they’re healthy, they are loved. It’s been an adventure of a lifetime – to say the least.”
