A mother named Jennifer from Yeovil, Somerset started vomiting and fainted while driving with her daughter Esme in October 2019.
The six-year-old girl quickly took her mom’s phone and called 999 to ask for help.
The brave girl has been awarded for her bravery as she saved her mother’s life and did what was right in such situation. Speaking to the BBC, Jennifer said: “I’m surprised she knew what to do as we’ve never spoken about it, so it was a big surprise when she took the phone out and called the ambulance.
“Without a doubt she saved my life. I’m grateful she knew what to do, I dread to think what would have happened otherwise.”
Esme said: “When she vomited and her eyes were shut, and she didn’t speak that well, I knew my mommy was unwell. When the ambulance came I was very happy.”
Esme explained their location to the ambulance service and succeeded in saving her mom’s life. Lauren Saunders, from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Esme was brilliant.
“She told me exactly what was wrong, where she was, and stayed on the phone until helped arrived. She listened to all my questions and answered them really well.
“Esme was so brave in a potentially scary situation. She is a credit to her mom, and fully deserves to be recognized for what she did.”
Esme received an award for her bravery at the annual Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Pride Awards. The ceremony took place on January 31, at Police and Fire Headquarters in Portishead, Somerset.
Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “The Pride Awards are something I always look forward to in my role as I get to say a big thank you to some truly extraordinary people in our community.
“I am delighted that so many people have chosen to nominate these ‘silent stars’, all who go about their daily business with little or no recognition.
“These awards highlight just some of the very special individuals we have living and working among us and their exemplary efforts are hugely appreciated across Avon and Somerset.
“It’s important we take the time celebrate these inspirational and selfless individuals who work hard to help keep our communities safe and feeling safe.”
