A 19-year-old, from Kings Lynn, Norfolk, took her own life after she couldn’t cope with being isolated.
Emily Owen, a waitress, warned her family before taking her own life as she said: “More people will die from suicide during this than the virus itself”.
It is said that the teen couldn’t cope “with her world closing in, plans being canceled and being stuck inside”.
Emily, who was described as ‘funny, charming, and talented’, died on Wednesday, March 18 after attempting suicide.
Her sister Annabel Owen told Emily was very worried about coronavirus and about the mental health impact of isolation.
She even had decided to help people who are struggling during this tough time.
Her family has now issued a warning to take extra care of those suffering from mental illness.
Emily was diagnosed with high-functioning autism four years ago and suffered from anxiety.
Her sister Annabel Owen wrote on Facebook: “She had a daily battle to fit in and conform to social norms.”
She said Emily didn’t want anyone to know about her mental health issues but now since she has gone, the family has decided to reveal it and urged everyone to help people struggling with mental health issues amid coronavirus isolation.
Her sister wrote: “She didn’t want anyone to know, but now she has gone we want to make people know that autism comes in all shapes and sizes.”
She said as she has gone, she realized how much positive impact she had on people around her as she is constantly getting messages from people saying Emily helped them through hard times.
When Emily was 12, she decided to donate her organs and now she will change three children’s life completely with the decision she took at such a young age.
