19-year-old Kieran Froude took his own life before meeting his former girlfriend, and his parents had ‘no idea’ about his sufferings.
The heartbroken teen was found lifeless at home on the day he was due to meet his ex-girlfriend.
His devastated parents, Allen and Tony, were on a holiday when the teen committed suicide. The couple had ‘absolutely no idea’ about their teenage son’s problems as he ‘hid his emotions so well,’ an inquest heard.
Coroner Samantha Marsh warned of the need to ‘break the stigma’ of mental health after the Office for National Statistics showed that the most common cause of death for men aged 20 and 49 was suicide.
“With what’s been happening in the national media it’s important to recognise that everybody should be able to reach out and admit they are struggling,” Ms. Marsh expressed.
“As a society we need to break the stigma of mental health for men.”
Mr. Froude was about to meet his former girlfriend Taylor Dudley before he decided to commit suicide.
An inquest heard how the teen sent numerous messages and attempted to call Ms. Dudley. However, he didn’t answer when she tried to talk to him.
Ms. Dudley then contacted police and it was discovered that Mr. Froude took his own life.
His devastated mother, 45-year-old Ellen, said: “He hid his emotions so well, we had absolutely no idea. People need to know that this isn’t the solution to their problems, even if it feels like it at the time.”
Ms. Dudley, also 19, said: “He was such a good person; he was always there for his friends and for me. We did everything together and he made me so happy. I’m so glad I got those four years of being loved and getting to love him.
She added: “Anyone would rather spend endless time making sure someone’s OK than speaking at their funeral.”
