The teenager who smashed a raw egg on the head of Senator Fraser Anning was seen joking about the incident on social media saying: “Don’t egg a politician, you’ll get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time, I learned the hard way.”
In the short footage, 17-year-old Will Connolly from Victoria, Australia, was seen recording the senator before smashing an egg on the back of his head.
Following his bold move, the Australian senator retaliated by repeatedly punching the teen in the face. The boy, who now goes under the hashtag #EggBoyHero, was then apprehended by five men who tackled him to the ground and grabbed him around his neck.
The incident followed shortly after the senator sparked public outrage due to blaming Muslim immigration for the recent mosque shooting that took place in New Zealand.
“The real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place,” the senator said in a statement.
After the eggtack, Connolly instantly gained hundreds of thousands of followers on social media with people applauding him for standing up to the controversial senator.
The Egg Boy, who managed to rack up over 240,000 followers before his Twitter account was suspended, was also approached by a high profile criminal lawyer, Adam Houda, who said that Mr. Anning should be charged for his assault.
“I’ve just seen the footage of the Fraser Anning egging. Anning reacts by assaulting the young man. The police are now obligated to charge Anning,” the lawyer tweeted.
“I’ve been a lawyer for over two decades and in my opinion, there is no argument that Anning was acting in self-defense.
“The video evidence is clear. Anning has NO defense. I’ll be monitoring the situation carefully. I’ve never chased a client, but I’ve put it out there that I’m happy to help him (pro bono) It’s now up to him and his parents.”
While the Egg Boy was the only one to physically confront the senator after he blamed the victims for the terrorist attack, the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, also took a strike at Anning in his Friday tweet.
“The remarks by Senator Fraser Anning blaming the murderous attacks by a violent, right-wing, extremist terrorist in New Zealand on immigration are disgusting. These views have no place in Australia, let alone in the Australian Parliament,” the prime minister shared.
