A teenage girl has passed away months after falling into a coma as a result of breast implant surgery.
19-year-old Emmalyn Nguyen from Thornton, Colorado, was in a vegetative state for more than a year after falling into a coma during breast surgery.
According to the reports, the teen’s medical issues started after she had received anesthesia at Greenwood Village’s Colorado Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery.
In an interview with KDVR, Emmalyn’s parents, Sonny Nguyen and Lynn Fam, explained how their daughter saved $6,000 for the breast surgery that she underwent after graduating from high school.
As the parents insisted, the then-18-year-old was in great health prior to the procedure.
“[She] was left unobserved. No one watched her for about 15 minutes. A nurse comes into the room and finds her blue,” the family’s attorney, David Woodruff, said after the parents have launched a negligence turned wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Geoffrey Kim and anesthetist Rex Meeker.
As the lawyer claimed, Emmalyn’s mother was staying in the waiting room for hours without being informed by the clinic staff that her daughter wasn’t waking up.
According to Lynn, a doctor eventually talked to her and told her that her daughter is probably “taking longer to wake up” because she’s still young.
After failing to wake up for nearly six hours, however, the paramedics were called to the clinic. Despite attempts to revive Emmalyn by performing CPR, the 18-year-old failed to regain consciousness.
Following the August 2019 surgery, Emmalyn was left with a brain injury whereas she could no longer walk, communicate, or eat on her own.
14 months later, Woodruff has revealed that the teen has passed away after contracting pneumonia and suffering cardiac arrest multiple times at the nursing home where she was being cared for.
