A group of presumed teenagers targeted an elderly lady in broad daylight with one suspect punching the victim in the face after she attempted to stop him.
The incident happened in Manhattan, New York City, where a group of three teens was caught on surveillance camera accosting a 74-year-old woman.
As the trio passed by, one of the teens appeared to have grabbed the senior’s purse before attempting to walk away unnoticed.
After the victim realized what was going on, she tried to stop the suspect by pulling his sweater to which he responded by punching her in the face and running away together with his accomplices.
Following the incident, the police have released the footage in hopes of identifying the attacker and his group members and confirmed that they have stolen the senior’s purse.
The authorities have also revealed that the victim of the vicious attack that took place in broad daylight refused medical assistance despite her injuries.
“Although the victim sustained bruising and swelling to her face, and cuts and scrapes to her hands, she refused medical attention,” the police said.
In an interview with ABC7, the 74-year-old explained that she was delivering food to her friend at the time of the incident.
As she said, she had never before witnessed anything like it even though she’s been living in the Big Apple for almost 60 years.
The robbery follows as the city is facing a drastic increase in violent crimes. According to the reports, there were 242 reported shootings in the city in August 2020. For comparison, 91 shootings took place in New York City during August 2019.
Besides an increase in shootings and murders by shooting, the city has also been struggling with an increase in assaults and robberies.
