It was a freezing winter day when 19-year-old Alyssa Lommel’s fun night out turned out to be a nightmare that will haunt her for the rest of her life.
After wearing a poor outfit to a party and falling unconscious, the teen went through a near-death experience that cost her all of her fingers and toes.
Allegedly, Alyssa and her friends were drinking at her home before moving the party to a friend’s house. After the party, the drunken teen was dropped off at her house by one of her friends who drove a car.
Before making it through the front door, however, the 19-year-old collapsed and remained unconscious for the following nine hours.
The teen was found in freezing temperatures stuck to the frozen ground wearing nothing but pants, a jacket, and Ugg boots. She had no hat or mittens and wasn’t properly equipped for the frigid conditions.
Now, Alyssa spoke out about her ordeal and warned other students to dress properly and avoid repeating her mistake which could cost them their lives.
“There were a few days that were incredibly hard to deal with and there have been a lot of tears, but at the same time the support that I’ve gotten is unbelievable,” the teen expressed.
“Every little ‘we’re thinking of you’ counts. I wouldn’t have been able to get through this without the support I’ve received from friends, family and even strangers…
“I honestly don’t remember anything from that day. I don’t remember going to class, going to work or anything. The whole day was kind of wiped out. To be honest, I don’t want to remember. I just want to move forward.”
Since she had lost her fingers and toes, Alyssa had to “relearn every single thing in my life. I had to relearn how to open a book… Simple things people don’t think about because it’s just so basic.”
After her tough-learned lesson, the girl is warning other students not to risk their lives for the sake of looking cool at a party or when going out with friends.
“Put on a coat! Put on a hat! Put on mittens! You may think it’s uncool, you may be worried, ‘What if I leave it somewhere?’ What if it gets stolen?’ What if you lose your life?” she said.
