Spanish authorities have spoken out after several incidents suggest an on-going trend as part of which people, likely teens, are excreting in public swimming pools.
As the trend went viral, several water parks throughout Valencia were forced to evacuate their pools and shut them down for disinfection and cleansing.
According to the reports, the challenge called ‘To Poop’ or ‘Hacer Caca’ in Spanish urges teens to defecate in public swimming pools and get away with it undetected. The perpetrators are also asked to record themselves pooping or taking a picture of their product.
“For causes beyond the direction of the Segóbriga Park and for a reason of hygiene and health caused by an incident, the complex has been forced to close during the morning of Wednesday, 24 July and must remain closed until Thursday 25 until 2pm,” Segóbriga Park announced on July 24.
Only a week later, on July 31, they came up with another announcement as they were forced to shut the pool again.
“The City Council of Segorbe has been forced to close again the pool of Segóbriga park to perform tasks of disinfection of the waters, until tomorrow about 2pm.
“We appeal to the civility of the people who make use of the facilities of Segóbriga park so that these kinds of actions do not harm the Segorbinos and the tourists who visit us, and we appeal to respect to ensure the good image of the tourism of Segorbe.”
While the staff of the pool admitted they have never experienced anything like this in their long careers, the disgusting incidents didn’t stop there.
In another case, Massanassa municipal pool had to be closed down for several days after they discovered a poop floating in the water.
“We do not know if it is due to the incontinence of minors or a hooligan. But when it happens, we have to evacuate, subject the water to an antibacterial treatment for an hour and only then can swimming resume,” the spokesperson wrote.
