Luck is sometimes the only thing you can truly depend on when you’re in a bad spot.
For one woman, luck was what saved her from a horrible fate.
It all starts when two young teenagers, Aaron and Jamal, were driving around their town of Kaufman County, Texas. Kaufman County isn’t a small town, however with only a population of 100,000 it certainly isn’t rivaling the big name cities. Still, a leisure drive around town can still be exciting for two teenagers who were otherwise very bored.

As they were driving around, they passed by a car. In the back of the car was quite the attractive young woman. Being the two young men they are, with hormones pumped into their veins every moment of every day, they of course had to steal a few extra glances. However on the second or third glance, when the pair were trying to make eye contact with her, they noticed that she was attempting to say something.
As they attempted to figure out what she was saying, it hit them. The two agreed that she was attempting to say “help me”. The two couldn’t be sure if that’s what she was attempting to say, as they could only figure it out by reading her lips, but something just didn’t seem right.
That’s when the pair decided that they weren’t going to let this go.point 171 | They immediately called the police and began to trail the car.point 223 |
The pair kept their distance, as to not raise suspicion, but continued to trail the car until police officers were able to catch up.point 109 | point 109 | 1
In the video below you will hear the entirety of the 911 call between Aaron and the dispatcher as they trail the car containing the woman. You can hear Aaron, albeit a bit panicked, keeping the dispatcher up-to-date on what is happening.
Yes, I’m on the highway. I’m witnessing a robbery; not a robbery — a kidnapping
Aaron is only 19 years old and is attending a local college. This is perhaps the most tense moment of his life up until this point and you can hear it in his voice. Still, he explains why the pair had an uneasy feeling about this woman and the man driving the vehicle.

It’s me and another guy. So we’re checking out the girl in the backseat because we’re like, ‘OK, she’s kind of attractive’, and then all of a sudden the guy is turned back, looking at us.
Aaron and Jamal continued to follow the vehicle down U.S. 175 through the heart of Texas, making sure to never lose sight of the woman and the car. Soon though, the police finally caught up with both vehicles and pulled over the vehicle with the woman. Aaron and Jamal would soon find out that they just saved a woman’s life with their gut instincts.
The woman had been kidnapped two weeks earlier, in downtown Dallas, Texas at gun point. Had this pair not noticed her, she may have never escaped her kidnapper. The driver, Charles Atkins Lewis, a 37-year-old man, was arrested for aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
Aaron and Jamal would meet the woman after she was checked by paramedics. Thankfully, the woman was unharmed during the two week living nightmare and was incredibly thankful to the two young men. Aaron told NBCDFW what it was like to meet her.
She hugs us. I would describe it as the best hug I have ever gotten.
Aaron and Jamal want to stay in contact with the woman, but they also want to make sure they don’t interfere with the investigation or the upcoming court case.

When NBCDFW asked if Aaron considered himself a hero, he responded in a surprisingly humble manner.
She says we saved her life. I guess you could say we did. But I don’t want to be that person who says they’re a hero.
A brave yet humble hero to be sure. We salute you Jamal and Aaron! What an incredible story that managed to save a life through hormones and two quick thinking young men.
