A single mum-of-ten has made it to the show Mega Families after giving birth to her tenth child despite struggling to take care of her other children.
As Sonya O’Loughlin revealed, she and her large family live in a four-bedroom apartment provided by the Southampton council.
The single mum relies solely on benefits to sustain her children and receives $600 per week. As the mother added, her family might grow bigger because she never uses a condom.
Her newest addition to the family, a baby boy, joined the ranks of Lexi, 1, Lewis, 5, Cana, 7, Kye, 10, Erin, 13, Keon, 14, Shannon, 16, Leah, 17, and Nicola, 19.
“Some people say they’re allergic to condoms. I can’t say that because I’ve never used one,” Sonya said.
She also admitted that her daily routine is pretty hectic and that her children take turns to eat due to lack of space and lack of bowls and plates.
“I have to buy everything in bulk. My money all goes on the children. It goes in their bellies and for anything else I can afford to pay for them. It never goes in my back pocket,” the mum added.
“You don’t give children a choice about what they eat, otherwise it’d be like I was running a restaurant.
“I make everything from scratch, it can sometimes cost a little more but then I know what’s gone into it and I want them to eat well.”
The Mega Families show also follows the life of Tommy and Jo O’Rourke who are planning on having their eleventh baby.
The London-based family relies on their detailed routine and a minibus to meet their needs and get to the places where they need to be.
“The mini bus is our lifeline, we’ve been on many holidays and trips in it,” Jo admitted.
“After school, the routine is key. They get in, go upstairs and take their school uniforms off and fold it neatly with the next days’ socks and underwear so it’s ready to go for the morning.”
