Fury and panic erupted in Texas recently after the Supreme Court refused to intervene and block the Texas law that bans abortions at six weeks.
The passing of the law was also reportedly condemned by US President Joe Biden who expressed his concern over the matter. In the same way, he went on to add how this was just not something he was in favor of as it violates women’s rights to gain access to the health care that they need.
Therefore, it was certainly not surprising to see women rushing into different abortion clinics on Tuesday. They had less than 24 hours to make their decisions to abort a child, right before the new law came into effect on Wednesday.
The new Texas law bans abortions upon the detection of the first fetal heartbeat sound, which is at about six weeks.
But many critics were quick to point out how that was just not fair because most women wouldn’t even be aware that they’re pregnant in the first place, leaving them with no decision on whether or not they wish to keep their child or abort it.
While Biden was very outspoken on the law in the past, the new ruling by the Supreme Court where it refused to intervene and block the abortion left him lost for words.
Moreover, the President stayed silent over the Supreme Court’s decision.
But now, activists fear that the ruling could potentially uphold additional laws relating to restrictive measures. On the other hand, abortion providers believe that the new law rules out around 85% of the abortions that take place in the state of Texas.
The famous High Court landmark which comprised a decision by Roe v. Wade comprised of legalizing all forms of abortion access across the American nation in the year 1973.
Now, however, it appears the country has taken a step backward with many protests erupting across Texas and beyond.
