A lovely family from Texas has just welcomed the newest addition to their home – a chubby fellow weighing at almost 15 lbs.
And the adorable newborn has already broken the birth record of the hospital he was born at!
Jennifer and Eric Medlock, from Arlington, Texas, were over the moon when they saw their beautiful baby boy opening his eyes in front of them.
Weighing at 14 lbs 13 oz, baby Ali has set a new birth record for Arlington Memorial Hospital.
“It doesn’t matter how big he is, I’m so blessed to have him,” an overjoyed Jennifer told CBS DFW. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, really?’” she said of the moment she learned about Ali’s weight.
Ali had to spend a week in the NICU for low blood sugar and platelets after he was born via cesarean section. But he is doing perfectly great now.
The Medlocks’ first child, Annabelle, was born weighing at 9 lbs 10 oz.
In case you’re wondering, the average weight of a healthy newborn is about 7 lbs 5 oz, according to experts from the University of Michigan.
A few years back, the Medlocks weren’t sure if they would ever be able to have their own biological children.
Jennifer had suffered from polycystic ovary syndrome, and a number of doctors had told the couple that they had little to no chances of conceiving.
“We tried anyway and prayed,” she told CBS DFW. “I love proving people wrong.”
Speaking of her baby boy, Jennifer told the outlet: “He is meant for something big. Maybe not football — everyone keeps saying that.”
Ali is already putting on size 3 diapers, the family said in an interview with CNN affiliate KTVT.
“We skipped [size] zero very quickly,” dad Eric said of their adorable newcomer.
“He’s sleeping and eating and he’s just a healthy boy. Just a little bit bigger than you would expect,” he added.
