People are reporting they have been receiving scam messages claiming to be from a postal service and courier company in the UK.
Cybercriminals are now using fake messages to trick people into giving their card information to wipe their bank accounts.
Those who received scam texts took to social media to report the messages which lure people in with the offer of a free iPhone 11 Pro.
Photos shared on Twitter show text messages from ‘RoyalMail.’
The message reads: “There is an item waiting to be confirmed. You took one of the spots on our Currys’ XMAS-list.”
A link added in the message will take victims to a website emblazoned with the Currys/PC World logo.
The website also asks victims to enter their personal details then an alert will appear: “Approved. our selected iPhone 11 Pro will be delivered within 5 working days.
“Please confirm your delivery address and pay a small fee (£2.00) for insured shipping.”
Victims are then invited to click another link which takes them to another page where they are asked to enter their bank account details.
Many people have reported the scam text, with one tweeting: “@RoyalMailHelp, is this some sort of new scam or a new feature you guys have introduced? It’s not the first thing I’ve gotten a text like this from an alleged Royal Mail number.”
Another wrote: “Hi there @RoyalMail I received the below text from you today- is it a scam? If I follow it through it goes to a @curryspcworld prize!”
Royal Mail wrote on Twitter that the company was ‘aware of the SMS and is currently investigating.’
