All of America has seen the horrifying evidence of Derek Chauvin placing his knee on George Floyd’s neck for an unbearably long period of time: nine minutes and 29 seconds.
Chauvin has been ruled to be guilty on all accounts, and will now suffer the consequences.
It has been a long time since America’s justice system has worked in the favor of the people, failing to hold numerous of police officers accountable for their dirty actions.
GOP Senator Tim Scott comments: “This is a monumental day in many ways. I think our justice system is getting more just.” Yet, this is only the beginning.
Morgan creates a description of what the police narrative was at the time before the George Floyd trial had concluded: calling Floyd “intoxicated, or drugged criminal [who] resisted officers, who never used a gun, and he had some medical issue that later caused his death.
” Morgan calls it out as a lie, and it was a “disingenuous misrepresentation of facts because it neglected to mention that Chauvin kneed Mr.
Floyd’s neck for nearly ten minutes. ”The former America’s Got Talent judge also brings up the fact that if there were no physical evidence of Floyd’s last moments, this would just be another crime that would be swept over by the eyes of law enforcement and so forth.
He describes the witness’ testimony to be “powerful,” that she was daring for ignoring the threats and intimidation the general public gave her, but her motivation ensued for justice to be served during the trial.
Chauvin, according to Morgan, “didn’t care that Mr. Floyd couldn’t breathe, or shouted out for his mother, or that witnesses begged him to stop.” He continued to press his knee down on Floyd with no sympathy.
With the news of Chauvin being jailed for what he has done, Morgan is “not just relieved that Derek Chauvin was convicted – I’m delighted. This callous monster betrayed everything the police are supposed to represent and deserves to rot in prison for a very long time.”
Still, Morgan comments that there is still an unbalance in the justice system.
He takes Representative Maxine Water for example, calling out about violent protests if Chauvin had not been found guilty. She tells the public “We’ve got to stay on the street, and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational.I hope we’re going to get a verdict that will say guilty, guilty, guilty.
And if we don’t, we cannot go away. ”She had commented on the case before the final arguments, and Judge Peter Cahill stated that it was “disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch for elected officials to comment on the outcome of the case… may result in this whole trial being overturned.”
Morgans says there may have been horrific damage that would have happened if the case did go to appeal.
