An enormous wall of sand covered the city of Niamey, which is the capital of the Western African nation of Niger.
The sandstorm occurred on Monday, scaring the residents. The images and videos of massive plumes of dust are shared on social media, and they have left netizens scared and amazed.
The images and videos show a massive sand wall appearing from the edge of the town and look something that we only saw in an apocalyptic movie.
The dust storm hit the capital city around 2:00 pm in the afternoon according to the reports. The storm caused a halt in the air traffic for a moment, and with the torrential rains, the sky finally cleared up.
Here are some of the images of the scary incident. You can see the massive reddish dust wall approaching the city.
Some other images shared by Twitter users show the sky, which is pained with dark blood orange colour. The images looked scary, as well as fascinating.
While some users were scared, some were amazed by nature.
According to the media reports, the dust storm is not an unusual occurrence in the country. It is well-known for the frequent occurrences of sandstorms that bring the Saharan sand into the city.
Typically sandstorm is seen between January and April and is reckoned as the Harmattan season.
This season actually starts in November end and lasts till March mid. It is also an extremely dry as well as dusty trade wind of the northeast.
During this season the subtropical ridge where there is high-pressure stay above the low-pressure and Inter-tropical Convergence Zone is positioned above the Gulf of Guinea. And during this season there are broader fluctuations in ambient temperatures in the day and night.
