Our beloved The Golden Girls sitcom is set to be remade with an all-black cast, which includes Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King.
The classic American television series, which ran for seven seasons with a total of 180 half-hour episodes, revolved around the lives of four women living together in Miami.
Before fans get super excited about the new version, it is reported that the revival seems to be only a one-night special to be broadcasted over Zoom.
Actors Regina King, Sanaa Lathan, Alfre Woodard, and Tracee Ellis Ross will star the roles made famous by Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur, and Betty White.
Writer and actress Lena Waithe will host the special episode and Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct.
Ross announced the exciting news of the remake on Instagram, saying that she will be taking the role of Rose Nylund, Betty White’s character.
King will play the character of Dorothy Zbornak, made popular by Bea Arthur. Woodard will play the role of Sophia Petrillo and Lathan is set to appear as Blanche Devereaux.
The Golden Girls special will be streamed live.
