In fact, Otis Williams, the lone surviving original member of the group, is still in the lineup as of 2016.
As mentioned earlier, “My Girl” is the one song that really made the group famous all over the world. Recorded in 1964, this song was written and produced by The Miracles members – Smokey Robinson and Ronald White.
So, how did the Temptations get the song?
One night, Robinson and White were trying to come up with the lyrics to the song, and that’s when the Temptations overheard their discussion.
And they instantly fell in love with the song.

So, the group begged Robinson and White to let them record it instead. And you know the rest of the story. It became a number one hit in 1965, and stayed there for fifteen months. Plus, “My Girl” was ranked number 88 on Rolling Stone‘s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
Because of its’ overwhelming success, the Temptations were able record more songs such as “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” (1966) and “Cloud Nine” (1969).
