The UK government imposed a lockdown on March 23; 2020, Monday, and many stores, institutions, and offices have complied with the order of President Boris Johnson.
Coronavirus has killed over 1,387 people in the United Kingdom, and the president has said that the only way to stop the spread of this virus is through isolations.
As of now, the entire UK is on complete lockdown. While Boris Johnson avoids saying the word lockdown, it is pretty much what happened.
The residents of the country are only allowed to leave their homes for important reasons, and the police have the authority to enforce these new rules upon the citizens.
Shops that are non-essentials have been closed down, the public gathering has been restricted to two people, and all public events are cancelled.
In his speech, Boris announced strict measures to keep people inside their homes in an attempt to save lives and protect the National Health Service.
The president in his speech said that without serious efforts to stop the growth of this novel virus, there will come a time that the country will lack health care facilities to cope.
There won’t be adequate ventilators, doctors and other medical professionals, intensive care beds, etc. If too many people become seriously ill all at once, the NHS will not be able to handle the pressure, increasing the death rate in the UK not merely from coronavirus, but also from other illness as well.
The president added that this is why it is extremely important to slow the spread of this virus, and this is why people are being requested to stay inside.
As of now, the lockdown is imposed for three weeks, and afterward, the government will assess the situation and take further necessary action.
