In May 2017, it was announced by Platige Image that they would be producing a the Witcher TV series in collaboration with Netflix.
Almost a year later, Netflix has finally given people a ray of hope to survive with. The first look of Henry Cavill as ‘Geralt’, Anya Cholatra as ‘Yennefer’ and Freya Allan as ‘Ciri’ was released on July 1st.
It has also released an official poster of the same. The Witcher will be released by the end of 2019 on Netflix as an eight-episode season.
The Witcher is originally a fantasy genre series of novels and short stories by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowshi. In the written series, witchers are monster hunters who have developed supernatural abilities to battle deadly beasts at a young age.
The book series has already been adapted into a graphic novel, a film, a video game and will now be releasing a television series. The video game of the series has been a real success. It has sold over 33 million copies as of March 2018.
Netflix has put up a vague and brief synopsis, which is not exactly helpful in any way. In fact, it is more confusing. It mentions something about a powerful sorceress, a young princess and Geralt and how they have to learn to survive in an ever-changing continent.
The creators of the series are transparent in their approach. They have clearly stated that the show will not be for a young audience.
The shoot for the Season 1 of the show was completed by May.
The end of Game of Thrones and MUC has left people craving for better content driven series. There is a hope that The Witcher series would live up to the popularity of the game.
