Therapist Created A Chart To Explain The Difference Between ‘Support’ And ‘Toxic Positivity’


Everyone goes through from bad phase in their life, they face many problems and when someone comes to you with bad news or tells about a problem they are facing we suggest them to keep calm and use this line “just be positive!”

It is normal to encourage people who are not happy and facing a troubled life, and we feel proud when we give someone hope and say something positive to make their life easier.

Well, one therapist does not agree with that and here to tell you, this advice is toxic. We always believe that telling people the positive lines makes them little relax, and this uplifting mantra about positivity will give them the boost they need, but this is not always the case.

Psychotherapist Whitney Hawkins Goodman, LMFT, owner of The Collaborative Counseling Center, has an Instagram account called @sitwithwhit and she shared an important chart on the difference between giving someone ‘validation and hope’ versus ‘toxic positivity’ and it is viral on the internet.

The therapist explained that she found the ‘toxic positivity’ sayings from Pinterest, which can be harmless mantras for people going through a bad time and it can affect them deeply.
