A homeowner was left stunned after she spotted three bear cubs relaxing in her hot tub when she visited her holiday home in the mountains.
Elizabeth Strickland was about to get some time off and spend a nice weekend with her partner at her holiday home in the Great Smoky Mountains.
When the pair arrived at the house, however, they were shocked to find three bears chilling in and around their hot tub.
While the area is well-known for bearvasions, the large mammals typically don’t hang out in hot tubs of unsuspecting people.
“I saw one walk around a corner of the porch, and I ran into the bedroom to look out the windows at the hot tub and there they were!” Ms. Strickland recalled in an interview with WKRN.
“It was so cute, so we let them enjoy for a minute. Then they went on their merry way,” the woman added speaking to Fox 8.
While bears indeed look cute and cuddly, the authorities have warned people never to approach them and take extreme caution when in their presence.
According to the National Park Service, people should “treat any encounters with extreme caution,” as bears are “dangerous and unpredictable wild animals.”
The National Park Service went on to warn that “willfully approaching within 150 feet, or any distance that disturbs or displaces a bear, is illegal in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”
While bears chilling in a hot tub are not a sight that most of us will ever get to witness, this isn’t the first incident of its kind.
Last year, Mark Hough from California was surprised by a bear who jumped over the fence as the man was enjoying his margarita in the backyard. From there, he went straight for Mark’s hot tub and finished the remainder of his cocktail.
“So he had his margarita, he had his Jacuzzi, and now he’s ready for an hour nap,” Mark said at the time.
