A heartbreaking video shows a white Bengal tiger going round and round inside a small enclosure at a Chinese zoo.
The clip shows the captive tiger walking in circles endlessly as tourists overlook from above.
The animal had been given ‘psychological counselling’ after keepers noticed the animal’s strange behavior, according to the Beijing Zoo.
Shocked Chinese internet users and animal lovers raised concerns over the health state of the tiger. The clip, which has gained over 10 million views, shows the depressed tiger walking in circles nonstop as it created a huge circular mark with its unchanged route.
The Beijing Zoo said that the tiger was moved away from the display after keepers noticed its behavior.
“This kind of behavior is expected after animals have stayed in a zoo for a long time,” a staff member said to the press.
“We have taken the animal to receive behaviour training. We also brought more food and toys for the tiger. It’s like “psychological counselling”,” the keeper added.
One internet user commented: “There is no enough room for the tiger. It’s ill, mentally ill.”
Another wrote: “I went to a zoo in China a while back. I was horrified at the small cages they were in, and felt guilty that Id even gone to the zoo in the first place, the poor animals.”
The video comes after another disturbing clip has showed Chinese visitors trying to feed captive tigers using fishing poles in an ‘interactive program’ offered by a zoo.
The program, which was branded as educational by the wildlife park, was then cancelled permanently.
