Tim Krul’s Water Bottle Had Been Seen with Tottenham’s Penalty Directions Written on it


In the fifth round of the FA Cup, which was held on Wednesday, Tottenham was held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich.

Norwich won the game after Tim Krul saved two penalty shots. He was Norwich’s star man in the match.

The match was equalized in the 78th minute by Norwich. It fell behind due to Vertonghen’s header and later equalized by Josip Drmic. After that, the match went to penalties.

But Krul was already prepared for this outcome of the match as all the penalty takers were listed on his water bottle. Not only this, the directions in which they would have taken the shot were also mentioned.

Troy Parrott’s name was also seen on the bottle and he only played for the second time for Spurs. His spot-kick was the first one to be saved by Krul. He did so, by diving low on his left.

Krul also went to the right way to save Eric Dier’s shot, who would have struck Spurs’ first penalty, but the bar was hit by  Erik Lamela. After that, Giovani Lo Celso also managed to score.

Krul displayed his remarkable reflexes when he saved Gedson Fernandes’s shot. That was a crucial shot and was lost due to Gedson Fernandes’s weak efforts.

Norway scored three spot-kicks and advanced the Canaries. The memories of Louis van Gaal calling Krul as a late specialist substitute, at the 2014 World Cup, were revived by this.

Prior to the Wednesday game, Krul faced 20 penalties and saved only two out of them. But, by guessing the right direction each time and saving two penalties, he made his side advance in Wednesday match.

After the win, he told BBC Sport that everyone says he is good at penalties so he knew he should start saving some. He further added that he had big emotions on that day as he wanted to get his club through, by saving penalties, even since he was a kid.
