Tina Turner’s fans were pissed after the singer did not receive a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist.
The legendary singer and her ex-husband Ike were inducted way back in 1991. But in 1984, she decided to go solo – that means she’d been eligible for Hall of Fame induction for many years.
Fellow celebrities and fans gave messages of support after the HBO documentary ‘Tina’ revealed the impact Ike’s psychological and physical abuse had on the singer.
Many furious tweets from Turner’s fans complained about the fact that the singer only got on the ballot this year even though she had been eligible for induction for decades.
“Ike Turner being inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 1991 and Tina Turner being nominated for the first time in 2021 is blasphemy and shows how much this society will boost an abusive male and hold back the survivor. Anyways vote for her for the hall of fame,” one angry Twitter user wrote.
“I hope Tina Turner is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for her solo work. She deserves it. I’ve seen few take a stage with the power and ferocity she has,” another tweeted.
“Tina, as Tina Turner, needs to be inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame WITHOUT being attached to Ike,” a third fan added.
Greg Harris, the President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, told TMZ that if fans want to help the legendary singer’s chances, they can with the RRHOF fan vote.
