Tina Turner has spoken out about her birthday and claimed she’s “happy to be an 80-year-old woman” following multiple health complications she had endured.
The pop legend has taken to Twitter to wish herself a happy birthday and express her gratitude for being in great shape despite her encounter with a stroke, kidney disease, and intestinal cancer in recent years.
“Yes, I’m 80. How did I think I would be at 80? Not like this. How is this?” the Proud Mary hitmaker said in her video.
“Well, I look great, I feel good, I’ve gone through some very serious sicknesses that I’m overcoming. So it’s like having a second chance at life. I’m happy to be an 80-year-old woman.”
Back in 2013, Turner suffered a stroke which was followed by intestinal cancer in 2016. Too soon, she was also diagnosed with kidney disease.
After her treatment of cancer in 2016, Turner’s husband, Erwin Bach, decided to donate his kidney to the singer to save her life.
“I know that my medical adventure is far from over. But I’m still here — we’re still here, closer than we ever imagined,” Turner wrote in her memoir.
“I can look back and understand why my karma was the way it was. Good came out of bad. Joy came out of pain. And I have never been so completely happy as I am today.”
Recently, the pop diva also opened up about her singing career and revealed the reason behind her retirement in an interview with The New York Times.
“I don’t sing. I don’t dance. I don’t dress up. I was just tired of singing and making everybody happy. That’s all I’d ever done in my life,” she said.
