Tinnitus is the perception of the noise in the head and/or the ear which has no peripheral source.
There is a constant noise of ringing in your ears, they could also hear hissing, clicking, or whistling sounds.
It is a really unpleasant and most debilitating condition for the patients. Random electrical impulses due to leak in the ears, chronic health conditions and injuries are some of the reasons for this condition. Sleep is a huge issue for these patients.
Apparently, a breakthrough was claimed by US scientists for this condition. They presume problems such as sleep issues, stress, depression, hearing loss are often associated with other conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis and Meniere’s disease which has no therapy.
However, this is not the case with tinnitus. With vast advancement and development in clinical trials, several studies have been conducted to determine the causing factor of this condition.
According to the latest research, the scientists have found that TNF-A (tumor necrosis factor alpha) is a leading factor for causing this condition. It disrupts communication between neurons. This revelation was published in the journal PLOS Biology.
Based on this research, the scientists conducted multiple clinical trials on mice and managed to halt the condition. This was apparently done by hindering a particular type of protein that stimulates the brain inflammation.
The findings suggest that treating the neural inflammation in the affected region can produce a cure for this condition and also hearing loss related disorders.
Since the scientists were able to control the ringing sound in the ears of the mice for a period of 2 hours they are hoping that they can achieve the same feat with a human ear as well.
A leading neuroscientist from the University of Arizona, Mr. Bao while talking to one of the spokesmen said, “Loss of hearing is a prevalent disease that has affected nearly millions and millions of individuals across the world and also one of the contributing factors for tinnitus condition.
Basically, hearing loss is caused by inflammation or injury in the auditory path but its relationship with tinnitus is still not clearly known.
Bao further added that their research was successful in animals. They are currently working seriously on the side effects before they begin with human trials.
