The parents of a 17-month-girl were left devastated and broken-hearted after their daughter was attacked by dogs while they were attending a neighbor’s party to celebrate Independence Day.
The toddler was placed in a playpen in a bedroom upstairs when at least one pit bull mix attacked her.
The two dogs were locked in the basement but they managed to escape, according to police.
“The homeowner went upstairs to investigate a noise and located one of the dogs actively biting the toddler,” police stated.
The owner pulled the pit bull mix away from the child and contacted 911. Officers responded to the scene and the baby was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said that the dog was handed over to animal control.
According to the girl’s obituary, she is survived by her parents, Daniel Wilander and Chelsea Cirino. She was described as ‘the most beautiful little girl’ by her grieving parents.
A GoFundMe page set up for the family reads: “From the start this perfect little girl constantly filled the room and hearts of whoever she came into contact with.
“Marley loved life and everything she was able to experience. Beyond intelligent, intuitive, and calming, this child has so many traits of a wonderful human being and had a big purpose.
“Marley was not only the whole world and universe of her parents, but a sign that hope, love, innocence, and purity was always more powerful than the negative. I speak for myself as a father of another beautiful girl.”
