If you are a parent of a toddler, we understand your struggle.
You must be tired of all those running around, screaming, playing, blabbering and all lot of things till your child gets exhausted and starts crying, in the end, to attack you even more. The only time that you are free of this huge problem is the time they sleep right?
Yah yah that is the only time of the day you get to relax a little and so you make them sleep in the afternoon as well. But it is the time you stop it because researchers say the afternoon sleep can affect the health of your child.
Toddlers are in the habit of taking a nap in the day but a study carried out in the US says why this should be stopped.
The study that was published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood in 2015 stated that the toddlers over two years of age can suffer from poor sleep quality if they sleep in the afternoon.
Well, the same does not only affect the sleep quality of the child for a lifetime but it also affects its physical health and behavior in the long run.
The data for the research was collected out of 26 studies and as a result, there were links between sleeping in the middle of the day and sleep quality in the older children and adults. The links were also found with health issues and behavioral issues like obesity, mental development, etc.
Professor Karen Thorpe in the support of the research said “parents have to understand that a child can manage their own sleeping plan.
The child is not getting more sleep when the child sleeping two times a day. The daytime sleep is just taking time away from the child’s sleep which is way more important. This is why it is important for parents to stop forcing their kid to sleep during the day.”
