Coronavirus has caused millions of problems all across the globe.
Now, after panic shopping and a shortage of toilet paper, people are opting for alternatives.
This is why the sewage department is now worried that this ill practice can chock the sewage system of the entire country.
Authorities fear that the shortage of toilet paper can cause the shit flowing out to the streets.
Shelves of toilet paper have completely cleared out, and now the sanitation department is scared that people are going to use alternatives.
Because of the same, the department is urging people to not look for other options like paper towels, wet wipes, napkins, and then flush them down after usage.
Toilet paper is made using extremely thin threads, and it melts down with the touch of water, making it flushable. But the rest of the alternatives does not work on the same method and can clog up the drains and sewage system.
California’s Marin County’s Manager of Sanitary District No. 5 Tony Rubio said that they have already seen two cases of sewage overflow and both were caused by wet wipes being flushed.
The overflows were not major and were conveniently correctable. But this enlightened that people must be flushing down wet wipes all over and it has to be stopped.
He said in a statement “If you are forced to use other stuff because of the shortage, make sure you dump in the trash bag and not the flush.”
All the agencies around the country have been urging people to stop flushing down wet wipes, especially in the time of chaos.
The department said that even though the packaging says it is flushable; don’t flush the wipes because they have the potential to clog the sewage pipes.
In this time of global crisis, it is the responsibility of every single one us to stand together and be as responsible as we can to fight off the time of the epidemic.
