Captain Tom Moore recently became the oldest individual to have #1 single after his song with Michael Ball reached #1 on the U.
K. charts.
This record was held by sixty-eight-year-old Tom Jones who is 32 years younger than army veteran Tom who is 99 years old.
Tom Jones reached the top spot with In The Stream with Barry Islands. Captain Tom who has won the hearts of people across the U.K. with his NHS fundraising bid would hold the #1 spot when he would celebrate his 100th birthday on 10th April next week.
Michael’s and Tom’s hit version of You’ll Never Walk Alone (Liverpool Football Club anthem) has become the fastest-selling song of 2020.
Their lead appeared to be threatened by Drake, Dua Lipa, and The Weeknd, however, Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) backed the Captain in a tweet on Thursday.
The Weeknd shared his support of Tom’s Official Chart bid on Twitter with Abel’s 11.8 million followers and also wished him a happy birthday. Then, Captain Tom also shared on Twitter to share his gratitude towards The Weeknd for supporting his song.
Tagging the 33-years-old singer, Captain Tom responded sweetly and exclaimed it was extremely gracious of Abel Tesfaye of his support and revealed that Benji told him about Abel’s fame and great talent.
Captain Tom had been awarded the Pride of Britain Award recently.
Speaking from his Bedfordshire Home, where Tom lives with Hannah (her daughter) and her family, the Captain noted that it was a piece of wonderful news he received about being a record-breaker chart-topper.
He exclaimed that his grandchildren could not believe he has become a chart-topper.
He then thanked Michael Ball, the NHS choir, and all the people behind the scenes who had shared their expertise and talent to raise funds for the NHS. He added that everyone owes a lot to the NHS.
He also thanked the public for buying his single and donating and noted that You’ll Never Walk Alone. Notably, Michael’s Love Changes Everything reached #2 in 1989 and his duet with Tom Moore has been his #1 single.
