A new annual survey published by Today’s Dietitian and Pollock Communications with 1,342 registered dietitians nutritionists (RDNs) were asked to tell healthiest foods of 2019.
Jenna A. Bell, PhD, RDN, SVP of Pollock Communications said: “Plant-based eating has been a major focus in the dietetic community,”
“Now, consumers are hearing this message and it’s what they want.” This is apparent in the growth of seeds, nuts and non-dairy alternatives. The supermarket milk case has gone from cow to soy, rice, almond, coconut, walnut and oats! Consumers are fulfilling their health and protein needs with a diverse number of dairy and non-dairy products.
Nutritionists listed these top 10 superfoods which are healthiest:
1. Fermented Foods, like yogurt
Yogurt is one of the best examples of fermented food as it is the best sources of probiotics, which are friendly bacteria that can improve your health. Fermented foods may improve digestion, boost immunity and help us maintain a healthy weight.
2. Avocados
Avocados are a good source of monounsaturated fat as it can reduce your risk of heart disease. It is a great source of vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium.
3. Seeds
Chia seeds to flaxseed and even hemp seeds are very nutritious as they are filled with dietary fiber, protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Apart from these 3 seeds sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds that you should add to your diet.
4. Ancient Grains
Ancient Grains contain protein, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants that have been associated with many health benefits. It provides fiber, vitamins and minerals, and healthy fats and may lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some cancers.

Golden berries are High in fiber with zero grams of fat, golden berries are a great source of vitamin A, which is good for healthy skin and eyesight. Acai berries help in weight loss and prevent early signs of ageing.
6. Blueberries
Blueberries are high in nutrients and protect cholesterol in your blood from becoming damaged. It can also lower blood pressure and protect against health problems like obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

Beets keep your blood pressure in check and have high levels of vitamin B, iron, copper, magnesium, potassium, and manganese. It can also improve digestion, boost athletic performance and they are a good source of dietary.

Coconut oil has some potential benefits for skin, including reducing inflammation, keeping skin moisturized and helping heal wounds. It is high in healthy saturated fats that have different effects than most other fats in your diet.
10. Non-Dairy Milk
Almond milk naturally has the most vitamins and minerals including copper, zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium and many more but it is not appropriate for those who are lactose intolerant or allergic to gluten.
