A Chinese tourist wanted to bring a 3-liter jug of milk back to China but was stopped at the airport in Australia because he would violate the 100 ml liquid restriction for hand luggage. But he didn’t want to throw the milk away. His solution? Chug it all down.
The man, who hails from Zhengzhou in east China’s Henan province, had been stopped at the airport security checkpoint when the amusing incident happened. He chugged down the 2.5 liters that were left in the bottle as amused bystanders laughed.
The tourist’s friend filmed the feat and showed the young man throwing his head back as he drank in all of the milk in one go.
Speaking to video news site Pear on Wednesday, the friend said they were planning to bring the milk home because it was “very cheap.”
The friend, only identified by the surname Nan, told reporters: “It’s way cheaper to buy milk in Australia than in China. It’s cheaper than getting water there!”
Milk in Australian supermarkets has been going for AUD$1 a liter although last month supermarket giants Coles and Aldi announced that they will raise prices for their two-liter bottles to AUD$2.20 and three-liter bottles to AUD$3.30.
However, they are still way cheaper than the milk sold in China.
“We were not allowed to bring the milk on the flight, so my friend decided to drink all of it at the airport,” Nan said.
“I’ve never seen him drink so much milk before,” he added.
The milk-drinking footage soon went viral on Chinese social media where users quickly associated the man’s actions with a scene in the 2010 Chinese hit comedy film, “Lost on Journey.”
In the movie, Niu Geng is a naive migrant worker who works as a milk extraction technician. He decided to gulp down a gallon of milk after being stopped by airport security which resulted in him rushing to the bathroom several times during his flight.
“This is exactly what happened in the movie Lost on Journey!” one user wrote.
“He might regret it once he gets on the plane!” another added.
“Australian milk really does taste better!” one user chimed.
