Tourists Worked Together To Push Large Stranded Jellyfish Back Into The Sea


A group of beachgoers embarked on a rescue mission as they spotted a large jellyfish that got stranded on the beach amid a heatwave.

Knowing they had to act fast to save the jellyfish from the sun, several people gathered around the animal in an attempt to push it back into the sea.

“I was sat on the beach with my family and saw loads of people gathered around and I saw that there had been lots of barrel jellyfish recently, so I thought it was probably one of those,” 18-year-old Plymouth-based rescuer, James Weir, said.

“I walked up with my camera and it was massive. It was really cool to see it, especially the tentacles. People tried to lift it but it was really heavy, it was pretty massive.

“There were lots of people touching it and then some dragged it out to sea. I think it was dead. After they took it out an hour later it was back on the shore again.”

According to the reports, there’s been a major increase in sea animal sightings at the shores of Britain due to increasing temperatures that caused the seas to warm up.

During the recent heatwave, large barrel jellyfish have been spotted on several beaches in Devon as well as other nearby places.

“I do a bit of sailing and every time I have sailed this season I think I have seen one in the water in Plymouth Sound by Drakes Island and other places,” sailor James claimed, adding that he saw barrel jellyfish on every single outing he embarked on this year.
