A town is offering free Viagra to any couples who move there to increase the local birth rate.
The mayor of Montereau in northern France, Jean Debouzy, just announced he was “favorable to the distribution of the little blue pills.”
He said the move is necessary as the town’s decreasing number of children threatens two local schools with closure.
Couples living in the two and new ones who move there will receive free Viagra, according to The Local.
“A village without children is a village that dies,” the mayor expressed. He said that he hadn’t yet found a supply of the pills and would still need approval from the local council.
The mayor acknowledged the act was intended to gain attention to the dilemma of two local schools.
It is reported that Frenchmen normally need a prescription from their doctors to buy Viagra so it is not clear whether the mayor can fulfill his promise.
The country has long pursued a policy of promoting a higher birth rate to reduce the weight of an aging population.
The Paris government provides tax breaks and big subsidies for families with kids. Parental leave is also available until the child turns 3.
France’s fertility rate was 2.06, according to a list in 2018. That is considered higher than most developed countries, with Germany on 1.46, the United States on 1.87, and the UK on 1.89.
Even so, the overall birth rate fell for the 4th year in a row.
One person said: “Where do I sign up?!?!?!”
Another wrote: “Ah, now there’s a good reason to have kids! Because the lack of kids threatens government jobs and retirement plans. Just creates a big warm and fuzzy, don’t it? Up with people!!”
A third said: “Ok. Give me the viagra and provide the women and I¿ll do my best to provide you a few kids!”
