Another town in Sicily, Italy is offering houses for only $1, and the view is just amazing!
The $1 house movie is their common strategy to attract people to stay at the medieval Italian villages after losing their populations in the last decades.
For those who are searching for a fixer-upper, the Bivona town in Sicily is now offering cheap land to gain more residents.
It is a small town in the heart of the southern island.
The town is also offering tax bonuses and loosening restrictions to make the location stand out from other areas
Other towns require around $5,000 deposit or more for the $1 but Bivona hopes that its only $2,750 bond will attract more people and investors. It also extends the mandatory renovation period to 4 years.
Bivona’s culture councilor, Angela Cannizzaro, told CNN: “In the last 40 years, our population has halved. Today we’re down to just 3,800 residents.”
She continued: “We want to recover the lost grandeur of our greatest time in history, back in the Renaissance, when 8,000 people lived in Bivona and it was a flourishing feudal duchy blessed by Emperor Charles V.”
Future homeowners and investors are expected to repair and restore the property.
“Despite so many empty buildings, Bivona’s old center is still vibrant, packed with history and very welcoming. We need to breathe new life into it.”
Morgane Guihot was among the first buyers to buy a $1 house in Mussomeli, another town in the heart of Sicily.
“When we decided to invest in a second home, we were lured by the attractive bargain prices in Mussomeli when compared to France’s expensive estate market,” she explained.
“But what conquered us the first time we visited was the charm of the place. It’s super cute and locals are so welcoming.”
