Little Things

Glitter gets everywhere.

If you’ve ever done an art project with it, you know it’s impossible to wash out of clothing and furniture. You’ll find it in random places all over your home for weeks.

If you’re anything like me though, you still LOVE glitter. I just wish that I could coat everything with glitter while also appeasing my friends and family who come over and don’t want to be covered in it when they leave.

That’s why I love this project, which allows you to create an incredible and stunning sparkly floor, permanently!

Kathy Cano-Murillo, known on YouTube as The Crafty Chica, is like me—she LOVES glitter. She also loves DIY projects that are easy enough for anyone to accomplish.

She ripped up the old carpet in her art studio and decided to spruce things up.

She also wanted to make a statement with her floor and the result is amazing.

Kathy was lucky enough to find smooth concrete underneath the old carpet, the perfect canvas for this project. This is a great project for a basement floor or any space that looks unfinished and could be improved easily with some basic tools.

What you’ll need:

  • Cleaning Supplies: like a bucket, mop, and scrubbing brush
  • Painting Supplies: paint rollers with handles, paint trays, and an edging brush
  • A Garage Floor Coating Kit
  • Water-based high-gloss varnish
  • 6-8 containers of glitter

Once you’ve acquired all your supplies, you’ll want to spend some time stripping and cleaning the floor. Old dirt and glue can affect the finished look of the floor.

Next you’ll paint the floor and add glitter evenly to the surface. The key here is to throw the glitter into the air so that it will easily blend. Let the floor dry overnight and sweep up any excess in the morning.

Finish the floor by adding coats of varnish. Wait a few days for everything to dry properly before putting any furniture on it.

This is an excellent project to do with friends and family who love glitter. Once it’s completed, the glitter is stuck the floor, which means you have a beautifully sparkly home without making guests deal with the mess of glitter.
