A woman who claims to be a ‘transpecies elf’ has sparked a social media debate.
Kimberel Eventide identifies herself as an ‘Otherkin’ – a term for those who don’t consider themselves to be entirely human and feel some kind of connection to mythical creatures.
She is a woman from Chicago who says she is ‘an elf trapped in the human body.’
Eventide said she realized her true nature after she read J R R Tolkien’s masterpiece The Lord of the Rings and felt a strong connection to the novel characters.
Susanna defined transpecies as beings who ‘can be anything from a unicorn, to a mermaid, to a dragon.’
Eventide said of herself: ‘I identify as an Otherkin, which feels more like an elf – I have a human body but my soul belongs to another species. It’s about a way of life and about being connected to nature, always.
‘It’s not about the ears, it’s about who you are on the inside and how you carry yourself.’
When asked: ‘People are laughing about this but you’re deadly serious aren’t you? You do identify as a transpecies elf trapped in a human body?’
Eventide replied that people ‘are starting to question more what is a human,’ and that Otherkins are ‘unique humans on earth’.
When asked if she ‘genuinely believes’ herself to be a non-human or if she acknowledges that Tolkien’s world is a fantasy.
‘I came into this world feeling different and I believe that I’m not the only one,’ Eventide replied.
‘We’re going to find out more in the future that the human being is far more unlimited than we may have imagine and I believe that a lot of new souls coming in are going to show that.’
One person tweeted by saying: ‘I’d be pretty confident saying you’re not an elf, you’re an American.’
Another added: ‘Hi, I now identify as a sofa. If this woman can claim to be an elf, why the f*** not?’
