Recently, we published an article that looked into what people were watching during self-quarantines. It suggested that people were going back to familiar shows and music in these times of unprecedented chaos and uncertainty.
One of the most familiar faces on American television has been Alex Trebek. Trebek has been the host of Jeopardy! for over 35 years since the show was revived in 1984.
Fans of Trebek and the game show can now look forward to July 21st. To celebrate his 80th birthday, Trebek will be releasing a memoir of his life titled “The Answer Is… Reflections on My Life”. Simon & Schuster will be the publishers.
The announcement was made via a Twitter post on the official Jeopardy! account. The post read “Wondering what Alex has been up to at home? He wrote a book!”
According to the publishers, the memoir will cover a variety of topics. In the book, Trebek will discuss his opinions on issues such as success, education and faith along with his personal stories.
Fans of the TV show will also have much to look for, as the longtime host shares his thoughts on some legendary competitors as well as freshly released pictures of Trebek on and off the stage.
One topic that will also be discussed in the book is Trebek’s thoughts on philanthropy. He has done numerous works for charity organizations in his long career, including his work with World Vision Canada.
Trebek has also donated money and land for various purposes. In 1998, he had donated some 74 acres that amounted to $2 million to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. He has also donated more than $7.5 million to the University of Ottawa. Most recently, he contributed $100,000 for a homeless shelter in Los Angeles.
On March last year, Trebek surprised many when he announced that he has been diagnosed with a stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He continued to host Jeopardy! despite the constant stomach pain that comes with the disease.
In March of this year, he updated his Twitter followers with an update on his situation. With a disease that has an one-year survival rate of 18%, Trebek said that he was happy that he reached that mark.
A man of great intellect and a even bigger heart, we wish Mr. Trebek a healthy recovery. Share with us your thoughts in the comments, and be sure to follow us on Facebook for more news.
