Trevor Phillips said that Oprah Winfrey should’ve asked Prince Harry and Meghan about the duke’s past behavior and remarks about race.
Buckingham Palace has been plunged into crisis after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex alleged that Meghan was the victim of callous treatment and racism during her time in the UK.
But in 2005, a 20-year-old Harry dressed up for a party in a Nazi uniform and swastika armband, sparking condemnation from Jewish human rights organizations and politicians.
An apology was issued on behalf of the prince for his “poor choice of costume” after his photos were published in newspapers.
In 2006, Harry was recorded calling his Asian army colleague a “P**i” and a video of the incident was shared in 2009. Again, Prince Harry apologized for the offensive incident.
Charles Moore, a former editor of the Daily Telegraph, said that former politician Mr. Phillips contacted him about the bombshell Oprah interview.
Wiring for The Spectator, Mr. Moore quotes the email he received from Mr. Phillips, who wrote: “A genuinely interesting question about race would have been to ask the couple whether they had discussed Harry’s own past behaviour and remarks.
“It would’ve been a big positive for them to talk candidly about how they got past that history, and possibly an injunction for people to be generous.”
“That’s assuming that Meghan actually knows about his past life — she seems remarkably ill-informed about the family she married into, even though it is the most famous and widely reported clan in history,” Mr. Phillips added.
Mr. Moore also gave his own opinion and said: “Yes, Harry could have helped young white men trying to tiptoe through this minefield.”
In the interview with Oprah, the Duchess of Sussex said that she was isolated and so miserable during her time as a working member of the royal family that she “didn’t want to live anymore.”
She also claimed that Harry informed her that a member of the royal family had expressed “concerns” about Archie’s skin color.
Prince William just hit back at Meghan and Harry’s racism claims and said: “We’re very much not a racist family.”
