Lifelong Friends Made “Isolation Pact” And Moved In Together For Duration Of The Pandemic

BBC Breakfast

Three friends who have known each other for 40 years have decided to shelter in place together as the coronavirus pandemic starts to sweep through the UK.

Rather than grumble about having to stay in place for an extended period of time, they’re actually more concerned about running out of wine.

Friends Doreen, Dotty, and Carol have been supporting each other through divorces and loss and the coronavirus is not going to change any of that.

The trio was in good spirits and spoke to presenter Jayne McCubbin on BBC Breakfast.

So far, they’re planning to exercise in Dotty’s garden and also watch The Crown on Netflix. According to Jayne, with the “isolation pact” they made, they will move in together and face “whatever lies ahead together.”

She added: “And I’ve got Netflix so we can watch the Crown.”

The presenter also joked that instead of grabbing rolls of toilet paper, the friends only bought wine in a panic.

Dotty quipped: “We’ll have a supply of wine in” as she and Carol got a glass and mini-bottle and said “cheers!”

The ladies told Jayne: “We’ve seen each other through divorces and loss – we go on holiday together, we look after each other.”

They also express sadness for the people who will be out of a job because of COVID-19.

“We feel sorry for those who are going to be out of work,” they said.

“The cafes are closing, the theatres – we should have been at the theatre on Friday.

“What’s going to happen to these people?”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has indicated that people over 70 need to self-isolate starting from this weekend and lasting up to four months to avoid getting infected.

The disruption of daily life will hit the elderly the most.

While the three friends didn’t engage in panic buying, a lot of people did and that has led some supermarkets to impose restrictions on how many of each product one can buy.
