On April 16, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Mitch Ross pulled a Nissan Sentra over after it failed to move over while on the Ohio Turnpike.
There were two passengers in the sedan – a 35-year-old male and a 15-year-old girl.
They couldn’t produce identification when asked and were unable to speak English.
That’s when Ross realized something was not right. He called an OSHP translator to the scene after the pair were determined to be of El Salvadoran descent.
Ross suspected it was a human-trafficking situation.
It turned out later the girl had gone missing in New Jersey and the man had forced the girl to perform inappropriate acts on him. He was taking the girl to Chicago from New Jersey.
The girl was then taken to a hospital for medical treatment and the man was arrested.
The man was charged with abduction and is currently being held in the Lucas County jail.
Ohio has been taking strict steps to eliminate human trafficking in recent years, according to WDTN.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, over 1,000 human-trafficking victims had passed through the Buckeye State from 2014 to 2016 and 86 percent of them were minors.
Hats off to Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Mitch Ross for saving the girl’s life.
His quick thinking saved the innocent girl. We definitely need more people like him.
