President Donald Trump, who is actively supporting the pro-life administration, spoke out and admitted Alabama lawmakers may have gone too far when it comes to the near-total abortion ban.
According to Trump, exceptions to the law should be permitted in cases involving incest, rape, or when abortion is necessary in order to protect the health of the mother.
Taking the matter to Twitter, the president wrote:
“As most people know, and for those who would like to know, I am strongly Pro-Life, with the three exceptions – Rape, Incest and protecting the Life of the mother – the same position taken by Ronald Reagan.
“We have come very far in the last two years with 105 wonderful new Federal Judges (many more to come), two great new Supreme Court Justices, the Mexico City Policy, and a whole new & positive attitude about the Right to Life.”
Encouraging fellow Americans to join the pro-life movement, the President added:
“The Radical Left, with late term abortion (and worse), is imploding on this issue. We must stick together and Win for Life in 2020.
“If we are foolish and do not stay UNITED as one, all of our hard fought gains for Life can, and will, rapidly disappear!”
Trump’s statement is the first one in response to recent Alabama’s near-total abortion ban that prohibits women from undergoing abortion in all cases, except if their lives are endangered, provided they are pregnant for over six weeks.
As a consequence for breaking the law, which is expected to take effect in 6 months, doctors performing the procedure could be sentenced to a maximum of 99 years in prison. Women who will seek the procedure, however, allegedly won’t be penalized.
