President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign sold red plastic straws with his name on them.
A description of the Trump campaign merchandise website says, “Liberal paper straws don’t work.”
“STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable straws today.”
The ten straws cost $15, with a delivery fee of $5.06 to New York City and 250 straws can be purchased for $9.99 on Amazon.
According to a Politico report, the campaign confirmed that it had raised more than $456,000 from the straws.
The idea for the straws came from Brad Parscale, Trump’s 2020 campaign manager. According to Politico, Parscale was annoyed when a paper straw he was using ripped in half.
He tweeted saying, “I’m so over paper straws.”
“Prodded by his wife not to leave it at that, Parscale emailed his staff from the air with an idea: Let’s sell plastic Trump straws,” Politico reported.
‘’In short order, the campaign sent an email to supporters with the subject line, “Making straws great again.”
‘’By the time Parscale landed in Florida, the presidential straws were already in production and an advertising campaign was up and running. The first batch was sold out within hours.’’

According to DailyWire, their former colleague Philip Wegmann reported at RealClearPolitics that ‘’the campaign had originally ordered 200,000 straws but sold out of them quickly and had to order more. A campaign official told Real Clear that sales are expected to exceed $500,000 as early as next week. Tim Murtaugh, the campaign’s communications director, told Real Clear that the paper straw is universally hated.”
“People feel like they have been lectured to, and told they can’t use plastic straws, you know, the kind that actually works,” he added.

Real Clear reported that ‘the campaign has already sold $428,145 worth of straws, filling 28,543 orders. Murtaugh told the outlet that 40% of the purchases were from first-time donors.’’
“Our data shows us that someone who donates to the campaign, votes with us in the upcoming election 96% of the time,” he tells RCP, and this “is actually a way to get new people involved.”
“We think that is an indication of the phenomenon that is the Trump straw,” Murtaugh said. There are also apparently counterfeit straws out there, so Murtaugh suggested: “people buy them from the source.”
